Professional referral credits

Product team · Reviewed

A professional workspace owner can open Settings → Subscriber referrals to prepare a referral code and share its link. The subscription price stays $49 per professional seat per month. Couple planning remains free; this program does not introduce a paid Couples Pro product.

Claim before subscribing

A newly referred professional business records the code before starting its first subscription. The owner reviews the displayed program terms and agrees to share the business name and referral status with the referrer. No email or purchase happens from recording the code.

Each professional workspace can make one incoming claim. Self-referrals, reused billing customers, and businesses with shared current or previous private operators are ineligible. The receiving account must be new to paid billing; a previous paid invoice disqualifies it even if its local plan currently says Free.

The default reward is a fixed $49 USD subscription credit after at least $49 of qualifying collected subscription payment and a 30-day review period. These amounts and the hold period are configuration-driven and shown before a claim. Each claim retains its original terms. A $49 credit equals one seat-month at the standard price, not a free month of every seat in a large team.

Payment proof and review

A signed Stripe billing event can suggest an invoice for review. It never awards a credit on its own. Explicitly configured billing reviewers retrieve the current subscription, invoice lines and actual captured payment evidence. Fully discounted invoices, manual external-payment records, customer-balance-only settlement, refunds, disputes, non-USD invoices and unsupported subscription prices do not pass the cash-payment check. The subscription must remain active through review and credit dispatch.

The reviewer sees the exact evidence, eligibility reasons, fixed amount and hold date before approving or rejecting. Approval creates an immutable award with its source invoice and review hash. The same claim or invoice cannot generate a second award. Referrers see the consenting business name, status and their credit history, not another business’s invoices, card details or internal proof.

When credit reaches billing

An approved award stays pending until the verified Stripe platform account, referral activation and the receiving business’s subscription customer are available. A worker submits a negative customer invoice-balance adjustment. The receipt marks the credit applied to the Stripe customer balance; it does not claim that a specific subscription invoice has already consumed it.

Stripe applies customer invoice credits to future eligible invoices in the same currency. They are not cash, refunds, Connect payouts, credits toward customer invoices, or a way to pay for messages, storage, AI or physical products. Check the billing portal for actual invoice application. Stripe’s customer invoice balance documentation explains that accounting behavior.

Interruptions and recovery

Delivery uses one retained credit identity and provider idempotency key. A lost response moves the attempt to uncertain; reconciliation searches the original customer’s balance transactions for the exact award and snapshot. It never marks a queued adjustment as delivered.

Retries retain the original attempt clock. After 23 hours, the worker may reconcile an existing adjustment but cannot submit a new one. A changed billing customer, wrong platform account, more than 1,000 balance transactions requiring inspection, duplicate provider adjustments or mismatched receipt requires billing review. Rechecking an attempt does not reset the clock or create another award.

A failed or refunded qualifying payment before delivery holds the award. Already delivered rewards are not automatically clawed back with a debit or charged to a customer; exceptional post-award fraud/refund recovery needs a separate billing decision and provider reconciliation. This screen does not erase or rewrite the original award.

Setup and present limits

New claims require referral-program activation. External payment verification and credits also require the separately activated referral billing feature, the verified Stripe platform account, reviewer identities, signed billing webhook and scheduled worker. Configuration happens with the coordinated launch setup; a working page or saved code does not assert live reward delivery.

The dashboard and review queue show the latest 100 records. The initial program supports verified Stripe-captured USD subscription payments; unusual invoice histories or payment-record/manual settlement need support rather than fabricated eligibility. There is no automatic marketing enrollment, reward email, paid couple gift or automatic subscription upgrade.
